Waimea Arboretum Foundation is a non-profit organization created
to help support botanical, educational and research activities
primarily at the Waimea Arboretum & Botanical Garden. Location
is the Waimea Valley & Adventure Park near Haleiwa, island
of Oahu, Hawaii. The botanical garden sections of the park covers
over 100 acres with 6,000 plant varieties. At least 200 of these
are rare, endangered or globally threatened.
The WAF also supports botanical preservation, conservation and
collections management throughout Hawaii and around the world.
Through its efforts, many obscure, threatened and endangered
plant species are in protective cultivation.
One interesting foundation activity is sponsorship of a Moonwalk
at Waimea Park. It is held once a month on the Friday of the
rising moon. This activity is open to everyone. Bring a flashlight,
insect repellent and a light jacket. Highlight is viewing flowers
which only blosssom at night and Waimea Falls by moonlight. Suggested
minimum donation is $3 for individuals, $5 for couples, and $7
for a family. Your contributions are tax deductible. The Moonwalk
is free for WAF members. Call (808) 638-8655 or fax (808) 638-7900
