Contradance is a form of North American folk dance in which the dancers begin with two sets of parallel lines. The sequence eventually allows everyone to partner with every other couple in the set. Contra was the rage during the 1800's. The Hawaii group meets, usually, on the second Saturday of each month, year round. Location is Weaver Hall on the grounds of the Church of the Crossroads, 1212 Univesity Ave. in Honolulu. It is very close to the H-1 freeway overpass near the University of Hawaii at Manoa. From Waikiki you can also take the #4 bus in the direction of UH. Visitors to Hawaii are particularly invited to attend. Beginners
are welcome and all dances are taught. |
